Highlights

 The U.S. stock market closed higher on Friday after the main benchmarks picked up steam in late afternoon, trimming weekly losses. European stock markets broke a five-day losing streak on Friday, with banks bouncing back after an ugly selloff spurred by troubles at the Portuguese Espirito Santo conglomerate. Asian stocks declined for a fifth straight day on Friday, ending the week with a solid 1.8% loss.

 Top-40 index added 0.29% to 46 071 while the wider All-share index climbed 0.33% to 51 161.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 332.80oz. and Platinum at US$ 1 508.80/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 106.64 per barrel.

International Markets

Asian stocks declined for a fifth straight day on Friday, ending the week with a solid 1.8% loss.

The S&P 500 closed up 2.89 points or 0.2% at 1,967.57 and finished the week 0.9% lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 28.74 points, or 0.2% to 16,943.81, bur recorded a 0.7% weekly loss. The Nasdaq Composite added 19.29 points, or 0.4%, higher at 4,415.49 but was 1.6% lower over the week.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index gained 0.2% to close at 336.91, trimming its weekly slide to 3.2%. That weekly loss, however, was still the largest since mid-March. France’s CAC 40 index gained 0.4% to 4,316.50, while Germany’s DAX 30 index closed 0.1% higher at 9,666.34. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 index advanced 0.3% to 6,690.17

The Nikkei Average fell 0.3% to its lowest level in over a week, while the yen, a traditional safe-haven currency, edged up to ¥101.28 from ¥101.30 on Thursday.

Domestic markets
