Highlights

 U.S. stocks rallied on Thursday, sending the Nasdaq Composite and the Russell 2000 to record highs, while the main indexes recorded their third consecutive day of gains. European stocks reversed course and ended modestly higher Thursday, aided by a U.S. stock rally as investors embraced the prospect of a slow pace in interest-rate increases. Hong Kong stocks staged a rebound Friday morning after a previous decline, bolstered by a sharp rise in U.S. markets overnight.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 199.70/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 084.40/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 64.17 per barrel.

International Markets

U.S. stocks rallied on Thursday, sending the Nasdaq Composite and the Russell 2000 to record highs, while the main indexes recorded their third consecutive day of gains. European stocks reversed course and ended modestly higher Thursday, aided by a U.S. stock rally as investors embraced the prospect of a slow pace in interest-rate increases. Hong Kong stocks staged a rebound Friday morning after a previous decline, bolstered by a sharp rise in U.S. markets overnight.

The S&P 500 closed 20.79 points, or 1%, higher at 2 121.23, less than a percentage point below its record close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 180.10 points, or 1%, to 18 115.84.The Nasdaq Composite jumped 68.07 points, or 1.3% to 5 132.95, the highest close ever.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index closed up 0.1% at 384.22. The Germany’s DAX 30 index turned higher to end up 1.1% at 11 100.30, while France’s CAC 40 index rose 0.3% to 4 803.48. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 index also swung higher, ending up 0.4% at 6 707.88.

The Hang Seng Index is down 0.2% and the Shanghai Composite Index is down 0.2%.

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.13 to the euro 1.58 to the pound and will buy 123.14 Japanese Yen or 12.23 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The market was higher and the All-share index was 0.43% lower at 51 372 points, while the Top 40 index lost 0.49% to 45 687 points.

Commodities

Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 199.70/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 084.40/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 64.17 per barrel.
