Highlights

 The S&P 500 suffered its biggest one-day percentage decline in six weeks Tuesday, erasing all the gains from the previous two sessions as U.S. stocks closed sharply lower. Hong Kong stocks staged a mild rebound Wednesday morning, seeing brief seesaw trading at open but then gaining after HSBC said its China service-sector gauge hit a four-month high in April.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 194.50/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 150.40/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 68.39 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.12 to the euro 1.52 to the pound and will buy 119.78 Japanese Yen or 11.95 South African Rand.

International markets

The S&P 500 closed 25.03 points, or 1.2%, lower at 2 089.46, with losses across the board, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 142.20 points, or 0.8%, to 17 928.20, with nearly all 30 blue-chip components lower. The Nasdaq Composite fell to 77.60 points, or 1.6%, to 4 939.33.

The Germany’s DAX 30 fell -2.51% to 11 328 and France’s CAC 40 also fell -2.12% to 4974. The FTSE 100 fell 0.8% to 6 927.58, losing grip of earlier gains as all sectors turned lower.

The Hang Seng Index was up 0.8% and the Shanghai Composite Index was up 1.6%.

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.12 to the euro 1.52 to the pound and will buy 119.78 Japanese Yen or 11.95 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The All Share-index was only 0.01% higher on 54 643 points, while the Top 40-index gave up 0.16% to 48 367 points.

Commodities

Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 194.50/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 150.40/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 68.39 per barrel.
