Highlights

 U.S. stocks finished modestly higher Monday, building on the previous session’s solid gains. The main indexes climbed amid low volatility and lower-than-usual volumes. European stocks rose Monday, recovering from one of the worst weeks in months, supported by robust manufacturing data across the region. Hong Kong stocks rebounded Tuesday morning following three straight day of losses.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 187.50/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 149.90/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 66.38 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.11 to the euro 1.51 to the pound and will buy 120.06 Japanese Yen or 12.03 South African Rand.

International markets

U.S. stocks finished modestly higher Monday, building on the previous session’s solid gains. The main indexes climbed amid low volatility and lower-than-usual volumes. European stocks rose Monday, recovering from one of the worst weeks in months, supported by robust manufacturing data across the region. Hong Kong stocks rebounded Tuesday morning following three straight day of losses.

The S&P 500 closed 6.20 points, or 0.3%, higher at 2 114.49. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 46.34 points, or 0.3%, to 18 070.40, while the Nasdaq Composite added 11.54 points, or 0.2%, higher at 5 016.93.

Having opened the session lower, Germany’s DAX 30 traded 1.4% 11 620 and France’s CAC 40 traded 1.1% higher to 5 082, helping the Stoxx Europe 600 to a 0.7% gain, after figures showed that the Eurozone’s manufacturing sector expanded again in April. The FTSE 100 is closed Monday for a bank holiday.

The Hang Seng Index was down 1.1% and the Shanghai Composite Index was down 2.2%.

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.11 to the euro 1.51 to the pound and will buy 120.06 Japanese Yen or 12.03 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The blue chip Top-40 index rose 0.5% to 48 443 and the broader All-Share index was up 0.4% to 54 639.

Commodities
