Highlights

 U.S. stocks rallied into the close and ended Thursday’s session with solid broad-based gains. U.K. stocks fell Thursday, with oil-and-gas shares leading decliners after oil prices were dragged to fresh multiyear lows, but shares of EasyJet PLC outperformed the benchmark FTSE 100. Hong Kong stocks opened higher Friday, tracking gains for U.S. markets, but soon fell back to the flat line as a heavy fall in index heavyweight Tencent Holdings Ltd.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 260.50/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 225.90/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 48.83 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.13 to the euro, 1.51 to the pound and will buy 117.81 Japanese Yen or 11.53 South African Rand.

International markets

Hong Kong stocks opened higher Friday, tracking gains for U.S. markets, but soon fell back to the flat line as a heavy fall in index heavyweight Tencent Holdings Ltd.

The S&P 500 closed up 19.10 points, or 1%, at 2 021.26, with all 10 main sectors finishing higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 225.48 points, or 1.3%, to 17 416.85. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite ended the day up 45.41 points, or 1%, at 4 683.41.

The Germany’s DAX 30 index rose 0.25% to 10 737.87. The France’s CAC 40 index was up 0.44% at 4 631.43. The FTSE 100 shed 0.2% at 6 810.60

The Hang Seng Index was down 0.1% and the Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.8%.

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.13 to the euro, 1.51 to the pound and will buy 117.81 Japanese Yen or 11.53 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The All-share index was only 0.24% lower at 51 075 points and the Top 40-index traded only 0.25% lower at 44 891 points.

Commodities

Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 260.50/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 225.90/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 48.83 per barrel.
