Highlights

 U.S. stocks ended Monday’s choppy trading session with small gains, as investors mostly shrugged off the Greek election results which brought the leftist Syriza party to power. Greek stocks fell Monday, under pressure following the victory of the anti-austerity Syriza party in Greece’s general election, but European markets broadly turned higher. The Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 0.5% after touching a four-month high in the previous close.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 277.20/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 255.50/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 48.20 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.12 to the euro, 1.51 to the pound and will buy 118.14 Japanese Yen or 11.45 South African Rand.

International markets

Greek stocks fell Monday, under pressure following the victory of the anti-austerity Syriza party in Greece’s general election, but European markets broadly turned higher. The Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 0.5% after touching a four-month high in the previous close.

S&P 500 ended 5.24 points, or 0.3%, higher at 2 057.07. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 6.1 points to 17 678.70. The Nasdaq ended the day up 13.88 points, or 0.3%, at 4 771.76.

The Stoxx Europe 600 marked its eighth straight win by turning up 0.6% to 372.39 as The DAX jumped 1.4% to 10 798.33. The France’s CAC 40 reversed course and rose 0.7% to 4 675.13, while the U.K.’s FTSE 100 fought out of the red to end up 0.3% at 6 852.40.

The Hang Seng Index was down 0.7% and the Shanghai Composite Index was down 1.9%.

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.12 to the euro, 1.51 to the pound and will buy 118.14 Japanese Yen or 11.45 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The All-share index was 0.4% higher at 50 018 points and the Top 40-index had gained 0.5% points to 43 875 points.

Commodities
