Highlights

 U.S. stocks closed higher on Tuesday, led by energy stocks as they shrugged off a decline in crude oil futures to rally back from their prior-day drubbing. European stocks rose Tuesday, on track to snap two sessions of losses as energy issues caught a break after a recent patch of relentless selling. Hong Kong stocks made strong advances early Wednesday, as financials enjoyed a second day of solid gains amid reported expectations for further monetary easing and moves to bolster the sector.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 200.30/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 218.50/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 70.77 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.23 to the euro, 1.56 to the pound and will buy 119.25 Japanese Yen or 11.11 South African Rand.

International markets

Hong Kong stocks made strong advances early Wednesday, as financials enjoyed a second day of solid gains amid reported expectations for further monetary easing and moves to bolster the sector.

The S&P 500 gained 13.11 points, or 0.6%, to 2 066.55. The Dow Jones Industrials Average rose 102.75 points, or 0.6%, to 17 879.55. The Nasdaq Composite ended the day up 28.46 points, or 0.6%, to 4 755.81.

The Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.9% to 348.62, aided by 2.1% drive higher for oil and gas producers. U.K.’s FTSE 100 climbed 1.1% to 6729.59, France’s CAC 40 rose 0.4% to 4394.84

but Germany’s DAX 30 slipped 0.2% to 9943.58

The Hang Seng Index is down 0.5% and the Shanghai Composite Index is up 0.5%

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.23 to the euro, 1.56 to the pound and will buy 119.25 Japanese Yen or 11.11 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The All-share index was 1.09% higher at 49 393 and the Top 40 index gained 1.27% to 43 783

Commodities

Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 200.30/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 218.50/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 70.77 per barrel.
