Highlights

 U.S. stocks ended Friday’s uneven trading session fractionally higher, but still managed to post a fourth-straight weekly gain. European stocks slipped Friday as investors assessed a round of economic growth data from the Eurozone. Asian markets gave mixed results this morning.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$1 1 185.00/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 207.60/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 78.55 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.25 to the euro, 1.57 to the pound and will buy 115.68 Japanese Yen and 11.08 South African Rand.

International markets

U.S. stocks ended Friday’s uneven trading session fractionally higher, but still managed to post a fourth-straight weekly gain. European stocks slipped Friday as investors assessed a round of economic growth data from the Eurozone. Asian markets gave mixed results this morning.

The S&P 500 closed at a record high after ending a fraction of a point higher at 2 039.82. The benchmark index gained 0.4% over the week. The Dow industrials slipped 18 points, or 0.1%, to close at 17 634.74, but still gained 0.4% over the past five sessions. The Nasdaq Composite closed 8.4 points, or 0.2%, higher at 4 688.54, as gains in the Internet stocks outweighed losses in biotechs.

The Stoxx Europe 600 ended down 0.1% at 335.63, but the move left the index up a modest 0.1% for the week. Germany’s DAX 30 index logged a turnaround, ending up 0.1% at 9 252.94. France’s CAC 40 index rose 0.4% to 4 202.46, and the U.K.’s FTSE 100 rose 0.3% to 6 654.37.

The Tokyo Nikkei Average was down 3% and the Hong Kong Hang Seng Index was down 0.8%. The Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.5%.

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.25 to the euro, 1.57 to the pound and will buy 115.68 Japanese Yen and 11.08 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The benchmark Top-40 index ended up 0.03% at 45 134. The broad All-Share index ticked up 0.02% to 50 598.

Commodities
