Highlights

  • The U.S. stock market rallied on Friday, sending the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average into record territory, after a surprise stimulus plan from the Bank of Japan was announced. European stock markets ended a choppy session on an upbeat note on Thursday, extending their winning streak into a third straight day. Hong Kong stocks moved off their opening gains to sit little changed early Monday
  • Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 166.10/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 232.80/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 85.56 per barrel.
  • The US dollar is currently trading at 1.25 to the euro, 1.60 to the pound and will buy 112.68 Japanese Yen or 11.08 South African Rand.

International markets

The U.S. stock market rallied on Friday, sending the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average into record territory, after a surprise stimulus plan from the Bank of Japan was announced. European stock markets ended a choppy session on an upbeat note on Thursday, extending their winning streak into a third straight day.  Hong Kong stocks moved off their opening gains to sit little changed early Monday.

The S&P 500 closed at a record high at 2 018. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also closed at a record level, having hit an intraday high in morning session at 17 391 and the Nasdaq ended the day at 4 631.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.6% to end at 330.71, marking its highest close.

France’s CAC 40 index added 0.7% to 4 141.24, while Germany’s DAX 30 index pushed 0.4% higher to 9 114.84. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 index rose 0.2% to 6 463.55

The Hang Seng Index was down 0.3% and the Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.6%

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.25 to the euro, 1.60 to the pound and will buy 112.68  Japanese Yen or 11.08 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The All Share-index was 1.67% higher on 49 474 points and the Top 40-index improved with a massive 1.81% to 44 122.

Commodities

Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 166.10/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 232.80/oz.         Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 85.56 per barrel.
