Highlights

  • The U.S. stock market bounced between gains and losses before wrapping up Monday’s relatively benign trading session mostly unchanged. Now that the European Central Bank has concluded its stress test of eurozone banks, the question remains whether lending will increase and help jump start the stagnant European economy. Hong Kong stocks made a move to the upside Tuesday morning, with the Hang Seng Index rising 0.6%, almost erasing the previous session’s 0.7% loss.
  • Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1,224.70/oz. and platinum at US$ 1,255.40/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 85.65 per barrel.
  • The US dollar is currently trading at 1.27 to the euro, 1.61 to the pound and will buy 107.84 Japanese Yen or 10.95 South African Rand.

International markets

Hong Kong stocks made a move to the upside Tuesday morning, with the Hang Seng Index rising 0.6%, almost erasing the previous session’s 0.7% loss.

The S&P 500 closed 3 points, or 0.2%, lower at 1 961.63, with energy and materials dragging down the benchmark index. Dow industrials finished at 16 817.94 and the Nasdaq ended the day at 4 485.93.

The Germany’s DAX 30 index is at 8 902.61.The France’s CAC 40 index dropped to 4 096.74. The FTSE 100 index dropped 0.4% to 6 364.39

The Hang Seng Index is up 0.9%. The  Shanghai Composite Index is up 1.4%

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.27 to the euro, 1.61 to the pound and will buy 107.84

Japanese Yen or 10.95 South African Rand.

Domestic markets 

The benchmark Top-40 index rose 0.33% to 42 816 points while the wider all-share index climbed 0.36% to 48 051.

Commodities
