Highlights

 American markets ended the week stronger thanks in large part to a stronger-than-expected jobs report that delivered a dose of confidence to investors. European stocks finished higher Friday, but the positive move came in the backdrop of the markets suffering their biggest weekly fall in about two months. Asian markets were mostly up.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 187.40/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 197.60/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 91.87 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.25 to the euro, 1.59 to the pound and will buy 109.53 Japanese Yen or 11.32 South African Rand.

International markets

American markets ended the week stronger thanks in large part to a stronger-than-expected jobs report that delivered a dose of confidence to investors. European stocks finished higher Friday, but the positive move came in the backdrop of the markets suffering their biggest weekly fall in about two months. Asian markets were mostly up.

The S&P 500 rose 21.73 points, or 1.1%, to 1 967.90, with health care and financials stocks leading the broad-based gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 220 points, or 1.2%, to 17 009.69. The Nasdaq Composite added 45.43points, or 1%, to 4 4755.62.

The Stoxx Europe 600 rose 1% to 335.19, and hit intraday highs in afternoon trade following a stronger-than-expected September jobs report from the U.S. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 tacked on 1.3% to end at 6 527.91, Also seeing some recovery on Friday, France’s CAC 40 rose 0.9% to 4 281.74. Trading in German equities was closed for a holiday on Friday. The DAX 30 slumped 2% on Thursday.

The Nikkei Average gained up 1.4%. The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index was up 0.5%. The Shanghai Composite Index was closed for holiday.

Domestic markets

The benchmark Top-40 index finished up 0.99% at 43 383, while the broad All-Share index added 0.88% to 48 613.

Commodities
