Highlights

 The U.S. stock market rose modestly on Friday as investors shrugged off a weaker-than-expected jobs report. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded their fifth consecutive weekly gains. European stocks lost ground Friday, with investors remaining cautious following a cease-fire in eastern Ukraine. Hong Kong stocks edged lower early Monday, with Chinese mainland markets shut for Mid-Autumn Festival.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 268.40/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 411.60/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 100.95 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.29 to the euro, 1.61 to the pound and will buy 105.12 Japanese Yen or 10.71 South African Rand.

International markets

European stocks lost ground Friday, with investors remaining cautious following a cease-fire in eastern Ukraine. Hong Kong stocks edged lower early Monday, with Chinese mainland markets shut for Mid-Autumn Festival.

The S&P 500 gained 10 points, or 0.5%, to 2 007.71, with all 10 main sectors finishing higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 67.78 points, or 0.4%, to 17 137.36. The Nasdaq Composite added 20.61 points, or 0.3%, to 4 582.90.

The Stoxx Europe 600 fell 0.4% to 347.57, but pared losses as Germany’s DAX 30 index turned higher for a 0.2% gain at 9 747.02. In France, the Paris CAC 40 fell 0.2% to 4 486.49, but closed the week up 2.4%. The U.K. FTSE 100 lost 0.3% to end at 6 855.10.

The Hang Seng Index slipped 0.2%.

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.29 to the euro, 1.61 to the pound and will buy 105.12 Japanese Yen or 10.71 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The benchmark Top-40 index gave up 0.61% to 46 388. The broad All-Share index slipped 0.74% to 51 789.

Commodities

Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 268.40/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 411.60/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 100.95 per barrel.
