Highlights

 The U.S. stock market finished roughly flat on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 staying around 2 000 a day after it closed over that milestone for the first time. European stocks ended the day mostly higher. Hong Kong stocks opened higher Thursday morning, recovering some ground following a two-day losing streak. Australian stocks headed lower in Thursday-morning action, with miners mostly lower on weakening in some key commodity prices.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 285.00/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 423.10/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 102.65 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.32 to the euro, 1.65 to the pound and will buy 103.79 Japanese Yen or 10.61 South African Rand.

International markets

The S&P 500 edged up 0.10 point to 2 000.12 for its 31st record close this year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 15.31 points, or 0.1%, to end at 17 122.01. The Nasdaq Composite dipped 1.02 points, or less than 0.1%, to 4 569.62.

The FTSE 100 Index gained 0.12% to 6 830.66. The German DAX lost 0.19% to end at 9 569.71 and the French CAC inched up 0.04% to 4 395.26.

The Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.2%. The S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.3%

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.32 to the euro, 1.65 to the pound and will buy 103.79 Japanese Yen or 10.61 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The benchmark JSE Top-40 index was down 0.27% at 46 351 and the broader All-share index inched down 0.23% to 51 610.

Commodities
