Highlights

 U.S. stocks ended Thursday’s choppy session modestly higher, as the S&P 500 eked out a gain, finishing at a record level for the 21st time this year. European stock markets opened firmly higher on Thursday, keying off solid gains in the U.S. the prior day when Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen signalled she was in no hurry to raise interest rates. Asian stocks edged higher on Friday, while Australia fell, as both markets stabilized after sharp gains in the previous session.

 All-share index was 0.83% higher at 51 114, and the Top 40-index passed 46 000 to a new high of 46 133, 0.90%.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 315.00oz. and Platinum at US$ 1 466.70/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 115.00 per barrel.

International Markets

Asian stocks edged higher on Friday, while Australia fell, as both markets stabilized after sharp gains in the previous session.

The S&P 500 added 2.50 points, or 0.1%, to 1,959.48, ending near its intraday record high. The large-cap index gained for five consecutive days. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 14.84 points, or 0.1%, to 16,921.46, also extending a winning streak to 5 days. The Nasdaq Composite defied the trend and ended the day down 3.51 points, or 0.1% at 4,359.33.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.7% to 348.53, after trading in tight ranges for most of week. Germany’s DAX 30 index climbed back above the 10,000 mark for the first time since June 11, trading 0.7% higher at 10,003.98. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 index advanced 0.7% to 6,825.16, while France’s CAC 40 index picked up 0.8% to 4,565.00.

In China, stocks were mixed ahead of the data, with the Hang Seng Index up 0.2% in Hong Kong, and the Shanghai Composite 0.3%.

Domestic markets
