Highlights

 The U.S. stock market ended Wednesday with modest gains that sent the benchmark S&P 500 index to a record level for the 16th time this year. European stock markets ended a choppy day slightly higher Wednesday after the final reading of the euro-zone services PMI confirmed growth in the sector, but fell short of expectations. Asian stocks were largely flat in early Thursday trading, as investors took a wait-and-see approach before the European Central Bank makes its expected announcement on policy later in the global trading day.

 The Top-40 index was up 0.02% to 44 985.86 and the All-share added 0.05% to 49 960.21.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 243.20oz. and Platinum at US$ 1 429.50/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 108.26 per barrel.

International Markets

The S&P 500 closed near session highs, up 3.62 points, or 0.2%, at 1,927.86. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 15.19 points, or 0.1%, to 16,737.53. The NASDAQ Composite ended the day up 17.56 points, or 0.4%, at 4,251.64.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index closed marginally higher at 343.56, after posting a 0.5% loss on Tuesday. Germany’s DAX 30 index rose 0.1% to 9,926.67, while France’s CAC 40 index lost 0.1% to 4,501.00. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 index dropped 0.3% to close at 6,818.63

Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average was up 0.1% at 15,078.57, while China’s Shanghai Composite was down 0.1% at 2,022.618,
