Highlights

 The U.S. stock market closed marginally higher on Tuesday, after retreating from intraday highs set in early morning trade. European stocks advanced Tuesday, with a climb in Germany’s ThyssenKrupp AG among those guiding key benchmarks to multiyear and record highs. Asia stocks were mostly higher on Tuesday, tracking overnight gains in the U.S., while Shanghai markets slipped as China’s April economic data slightly missed expectations.

 The Top-40 index fell 0.11% to 44 086.04 while the broader All-share index slipped 0.08% to 49 199.70.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 294.30/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 457.40/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 109.48 per barrel.

International Markets

Asia stocks were mostly higher on Tuesday, tracking overnight gains in the U.S., while Shanghai markets slipped as China’s April economic data slightly missed expectations.

The S&P 500 finished less than a point higher at 1 897.45. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose for the fifth consecutive session and closed 19.97 points, or 0.1%, higher at 16 715.44. The NASDAQ Composite ended the day down 13.69 points, or 0.3%, at 4 130.17

Stoxx Europe 600 index tacked on 0.3% to end at 341.89, marking its best closing level since early January 2008. Germany’s DAX 30 index, which closed up 0.5% at record high of 9,754.43. U.K.’s FTSE 100 index picked up 0.3% to finish at 6,873.08

The Japan Nikkei Average closing up 2%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index logged a gain of 0.4% at the close. However, the Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.1%.

Domestic markets
