Highlights

 The U.S. stock market ended Wednesday’s choppy session lower, as investors paused for breath after six-straight days of gains on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite. European stocks lost ground Wednesday, with LM Ericsson AB among the decliners pulling the region’s benchmark index back from its hefty gain in the previous session. Asian stocks fell on signs of further contraction in China’s manufacturing sector, while a rally on Wall Street bolstered Japan in a quiet, holiday-shortened week for regional markets.

 Top-40 index shed 0.14% to 43 648.41 while the broader All-share index was little changed, edging up 0.01% at 48 647.62.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 286.20/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 404.40/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 109.30 per barrel.

International Markets

European stocks lost ground Wednesday, with LM Ericsson AB among the decliners pulling the region’s benchmark index back from its hefty gain in the previous session. Asian stocks fell on signs of further contraction in China’s manufacturing sector, while a rally on Wall Street bolstered Japan in a quiet, holiday-shortened week for regional markets.

The S&P 500 ended the day 4.16 points, or 0.2%, lower at 1 875.39. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 12.72 points, or 0.1%, lower at 16 501.65. The Nasdaq Composite fell 34.49 points, or 0.8%, to 4 161.97.

The Stoxx Europe 600 shed 0.6% to 335.05, handing back a portion of Tuesday’s 1.4% jump that was led by a rally in drug makers. . Germany’s DAX 30 finished 0.6% lower at 9 544.19, and France’s CAC 40 declined 0.7% to 4 451.08. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 edged down 0.1% to 6 674.74.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index rose 1.1% to 14,546.27. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 1% to 22509.64

Domestic markets
