Highlights

 U.S. stocks ended higher Monday, reclaiming some of the previous week’s sharp losses after a stronger-than-expected rise in March retail sales and Citigroup’s quarterly results. European stocks finished higher Monday, with investors beginning to bargain hunt after last week’s selloff, though worries about heightened tension between Ukraine and Russia kept the market’s benchmark index in the red for much of the session. Asian stocks stabilized Monday after heavy selling last week, while markets in Australia and Shanghai moved lower in a mixed session for Asia

 The Top-40 index inched up 0.34% at 43 265.04 and the broader All-share index edged up 0.4% at 48 213.26.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 319.90/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 455.00/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 108.72 per barrel.

International Markets

S&P 500 rose 14.92 points, or 0.8%, to 1 830.61. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended with a gain of 146.49 points, or 0.9%, at 16 173.24, while the. The NASDAQ Composite gained 22.96 points, or 0.6%, to 4 022.69.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index closed up 0.3% to 329.79. The FTSE 100 rose by 0.3% to end at 6 583.76, winning back a small portion of last week’s loss of 2%. Germany’s DAX 30 reversed course and closed up 0.3% at 9 339.17, and France’s CAC 40 ended higher by 0.4% at 4 384.56.

Japan’s Nikkei was flat and the yen was a touch higher at ¥101.54 to the dollar, compared with ¥101.62 late Friday in New York.

Domestic markets
