Highlights

 European stock markets fell slightly Monday as investors digested a mixed bag of data from China, while Deutsche Bank led banks lower after posting a surprise quarterly loss. Asian stocks gained this morning. U.S. stock markets were closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

 Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 253.80/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 467.50/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 106.49 per barrel.

 The US dollar is currently trading at 1.35 to the euro, 1.64 to the pound and will buy 104.57 Japanese Yen or 10.81 South African Rand.

International markets

European stock markets fell slightly Monday as investors digested a mixed bag of data from China, while Deutsche Bank led banks lower after posting a surprise quarterly loss. Asian stocks gained this morning. U.S. stock markets were closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index slipped 0.1% to end at 335.50, after closing in positive territory for a second straight week on Friday. DAX 30 index fell 0.3% to 9 715.90, weighed by Deutsche Bank. France’s CAC 40 index slipped 0.1% to 4 322.86, while the U.K.’s FTSE 100 index closed 0.1% higher at 6 836.73.

The Nikkei Stock Average picked up 0.7% to 15 751.56, and the broader Topix tacked on 0.3% to 1 297.66, with the U.S. dollar climbing back above the 104-yen level. The Hang Seng Index edged up 0.4% to 23 008.26

The US dollar is currently trading at 1.35 to the euro, 1.64 to the pound and will buy 104.57 Japanese Yen or 10.81 South African Rand.

Domestic markets

The benchmark Top-40 index finished up 0.63% at 42 240.94, its highest close on record. It earlier scaled an all-time high of 42 285.34. The broader All-share index advanced 0.55% to 46 934.59, also topping a life record at 46 974.14 in earlier trade.

Commodities

Spot gold is currently trading at US$ 1 253.80/oz. and platinum at US$ 1 467.50/oz. Brent crude oil is currently trading at US$ 106.49 per barrel.
