New BPMA study on promotional products

UK – Promotional merchandise can deliver a higher ROI (return on investment) than radio and outdoor advertising and a ROI that is equal to TV and print advertising. This is one of the results of a survey on the power of promotional products in the UK conducted by the BPMA (BritishPromotional Merchandise Association) together with ActionPoint Marketing Solutions this summer.

The UK wide study was conducted of a randomly selected set of 14,728 adults, who were screened on receiving promotional products either at work or home. Other important findings: 66% of respondents said they could remember the brand on the promotional product they received during the last year, while 79% said they were likely to do business with the company in the future. 84% said that a branded promotional gift increases brand awareness, and 87% of recipients said they kept a promotional gift for longer than 12 months. Last but not least, over half (56%) of respondents said their opinion of the brand/company was more favourable after receiving the promotional product.

How to Buy Corporate Gifts

When buying corporate gifts, the most important thing to keep in mind is your intended recipient.

If you are buying gifts for a company whose employees spend most of their time on their feet or away from their desk, a desktop organizer may not be the best thing to get. Buy something they’ll use, not something they’ll file away in a drawer and forget. If some of your clients are animal-rights activists, you should avoid leather or leather-type products, as such a gift may have the opposite effect than what you intended.

Next, think about your cost. If you have a shoestring marketing budget, save executive gifts for only top-level decision-makers and get something a little less fancy for the rest of the staff.

You should also think about trying to stand out among your peers.

If you are in a competitive industry, then chances are that other companies in your space may also be trying to woo the same clients via corporate gifts. That means you should choose a corporate gift that will set your company apart from the rest.
